Research summary | This project aims to develop a low-cost, portable, AI-powered assistive navigation technology to enhance the mobility, safety, and independence of people living with vision impairments and blindness. The new technology, developed with volunteers from the Independent Blind Moms Foundation (Yayasan Bunda Netra Mandiri) and Vision Australia, will provide step-by-step speech guidance to vision-impaired users to their destinations. It will enable vision-impaired users to walk safely within the pedestrian lane, recognise road conditions, and avoid traffic hazards. The support from KONEKSI will foster long-term partnerships between organisations from Indonesia and Australia to address the mobility challenges of vision-impaired people. With a diverse team from the University of Wollongong and Telkom University, the project is also expected to contribute to building innovative digital transformation and artificial intelligence technologies, especially for disability support and health care. |
