On the International Day of Sign Language, KONEKSI proudly reaffirms our commitment to disability inclusion. KONEKSI held an Accessibility Audit Collaboration Workshop on September 13, 2023, underscoring our dedication to fostering inclusivity and advocating for disability rights. During this event, leaders from Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPD) joined KONEKSI staff in exploring the principles of disability inclusion, demonstrating the concept of ‘Nothing About Us Without Us’ in action. Tri Erwinsyah Putra from Gerakan untuk Kesejahteraan Tunarungu Indonesia (GERKATIN) shared his personal journey, highlighting the significance of recognising deafness as an aspect of identity rather than a medical condition to be “fixed.” Erwin emphasised the challenges he encountered in communication and stressed the importance of embracing sign language as a fundamental element of deaf culture. This workshop served to educate staff about the need for increased awareness of deaf culture, including non-verbal communication cues and etiquette. Fostering inclusive workplaces is the responsibility of all staff.
