Keyword | Forced labour |
Research summary | This project will focus on Indonesian policy and business responses to forced labour and the impacts on vulnerable women and children, especially those exposed to natural disasters, exacerbated by climate change in the context of responses. The project’s method will utilise a child rights framework, alongside an intersectional gender focused framework, and encourage local participation and use a mixed-methods approach. The project will take a particular focus on the risks of rising sea levels to coastal villages, the risk of forced migration that arise from land loss, and the intersection with forced labour. The objectives of the research are, (1) apply a gender and child focused analysis to the current policies and business responses to forced labour and climate change related to coastal villages in Indonesia, (2) map the extent of forced labour amongst women and children, (3) gain a better understanding of the experiences of vulnerable women and children in coastal villages, and (4) reach consensus amongst community leaders, business leaders and policy makers on ways to address forced labour in their communities. |
