Keyword | Natural capital |
Research summary | This research will document living natural capital assets of different marine, coastal and terrestrial environments to be able to assess mitigation strategies. It will provide a robust baseline on the across 40,000 ha adjoining the city of Pontianak, West Kalimantan and surrounding areas. The outcomes of this research are to (1) provide government agencies and communities with an accurate, repeatable, quantitative and objective baseline measure of natural capital across the urban, agricultural and forested landscapes, as well as mangroves and seagrass meadows, (2) develop prediction models of how land use and land cover and targeted species might have shifted with climate change, and (3) provide local indigenous communities with tools and training for data engagement and field validation. This knowledge will inform how successful current or future mitigation strategies are in maintaining or enhancing these natural capital assets across regions and landscapes. |
